Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences, Aarhus University, invites highly qualified applicants for a 3-year assistant professor position in grazing systems for dairy cows with a special focus on nutrition and reduction of environmental and climate impact, starting on 1 April 2024 or soon thereafter.
The position
We seek a candidate with a strong background in animal science, veterinary science, or biology. The candidate should have focus and interest in ruminant nutrition and the effects of ruminant production on environment and climate.
Experience in conducting, analysing, and publishing animal experiments with cattle is a prerequisite, and the candidate must have a good track-record within grazing systems and feeding strategies and technologies to reduce enteric methane from cattle. This knowledge is expected to be transferred to use within other herbivores as well.
The candidate must have good collaborative and English communication skills.
The candidate will be part of an active and dynamic research group, internationally recognized for its research within ruminant nutrition and in the green transition of agriculture.
To support the development of the research area, the candidate is expected to contribute to attract external funding within this area of research and lead projects.
The candidate will participate in knowledge exchange with public authority service and industry as well as teaching and supervision at bachelor, master, and PhD levels in animal and veterinary sciences.
Your profile
Qualifications for the assistant professor level at Aarhus University must include postdoctoral training or similar with a relevant research profile and a strong scientific publication record within the area of the position as described above. This includes that you have:
- Academic qualifications at PhD level in animal science, veterinary science, or biology.
- Demonstrated the ability to conduct independent research.
- Research experience in ruminant nutrition is important, preferably with experience in grazing systems.
- Research experience within feed evaluation, measuring enteric methane in vitro and using respiration chambers and Greenfeed is preferred.
- Experience in leading and participating in interdisciplinary research projects.
- Experience in conducting different types of animal experiments going from feed evaluation, gas exchange, nutrient digestion and metabolism to production experiments at herd level, focusing on nutrient intake, production efficiency, and milk production.
- Experience in laboratory work and having an interest in maintaining and establishing relevant analytical methods in collaboration with laboratory technicians.
- Significant skills in analysis of experimental data and scientific communication of research results.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- For non-Scandinavian candidates, an effort to learn to read, write, and speak Danish is a requirement.

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Formalities and salary range
Technical Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
