BEMÆRK: Ansøgningsfristen er overskredet
The Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences (ANIVET), Aarhus University, seeks an outstanding candidate for a tenure track assistant professor position by 1 April 2024 or soon thereafter.
The position
Production systems for poultry and pigs move towards non-cage and outdoor systems due to animal welfare concerns. However, most farm animals have been intensely selected for production traits in restrictive environments raising concerns for their adaptability to less intensive production conditions. Examples are non-cage and outdoor systems for poultry. These are more complex in structure, requiring improved focus on the genetic ability of the species to navigate in the systems, e.g., in three-dimensional systems, during adverse weather conditions and when confronted with predators. Also, balancing productivity traits such as rapid growth against animal welfare and other sustainability criteria requires cross-cutting research involving multiple research disciplines.
We therefore seek a candidate for a tenure track position who can develop and expand research in animal welfare and behaviour in non-cage and outdoor systems and reach out for collaboration with e.g., geneticists, breeding companies and other industrial partners. As a successful tenure track you will be expected to take initiatives to ensure external funding aiming to establish a successful and independent research program with your own research team.
Further, you will be responsible for teaching and supervising students at bachelor, master and PhD levels as well as technical staff. You will also be responsible for providing research-based consultancy to authorities and for participating in knowledge exchange with society and industry. The split between research, teaching and research-based consultancy varies between years, depending on the interest of the candidate, funding acquisition success and requests from the authorities.
Your profile
We seek a candidate with a strong theoretical background in animal behaviour, stress and welfare. A candidate who has knowledge in animal genetics and some research experience in the intersection between animal welfare and breeding will be preferred.
The candidate is expected to take part in and drive initiatives in an interdisciplinary research environment with national and international research teams and industry partners and be able to attract external research funding.
The candidate will participate in knowledge exchange with society, industry and authorities, and is expected to contribute to our educational activities, i.e., to develop courses, teach, and supervise veterinary and animal science students at bachelor, master, and PhD levels.
Qualifications for the tenure track assistant professor level at Aarhus University must include postdoctoral training or similar with a relevant research profile and a strong scientific publication record in one or more of the areas of the position as described above.
This includes that you have:
- Experience with teaching, supervising and/or course development.
- Demonstrated ability to publish in scientific journals and dissemination of research activities.
- Documented independent research qualifications.
- Ability to take a leadership role within a small research team, and student mentorship experience.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Have a strong international network.
Who we are
The mission of ANIVET is to perform basic, strategic, and applied research and innovation within the department’s core activities: nutrition, health and welfare. The activities make up the science-based foundation of ANIVET’S’ teaching, public sector consultancy and collaboration with business and industry. The successful applicant will be placed in the Research Unit Behaviour, Stress, and Welfare.
What we offer
- A well-developed research infrastructure, laboratories and access to shared equipment and animal experimental facilities
