The Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences, Aarhus University, invites highly qualified applicants for a position as associate professor in molecular microbiology in gastrointestinal health and function from 1 January 2024 or soon thereafter.

The position
The position in molecular microbiology is dedicated specifically to the gastrointestinal associated microbiome, metabolism, and function across animal species. The research focus will e.g., be on the great potential in new knowledge concerning the microbiota in relation to degradation of feedstuffs, animal performance and gut/rumen microbial metabolism, formation of microbial metabolites, and byproducts with the aim to secure a sustainable production from healthy, high performing mono- and polygastric animals with a low environmental and climate impact.

The successful candidate is expected to take initiatives in interdisciplinary research with national and international research and industry partners and to ensure external funding to establish a successful research programme and your own research team. 

Further, you will have to, within your area of expertise, be responsible for teaching and supervising students at bachelor, master, and PhD levels as well as technical staff. Furthermore, you will be responsible for providing research-based consultancy to authorities and for participating in knowledge exchange with society and industry.

Your profile
Qualifications for the associate professor level at Aarhus University must include postdoctoral training or employment as a researcher or similar with a relevant research profile and a strong scientific publication record in one or several of the areas of the position as described above. This includes that you:

  • Have a MSc and PhD in microbiology, animal science, molecular biology, chemistry, or equivalent biological training.
  • Have experience in research on gut/rumen microbiome.
  • Have experience in feed and microbial function.
  • Have experience in attracting funding and industrial collaboration.
  • The following will also be considered assets: demonstrated ability to produce publications and conduct independent research; ability to take on a leadership role within a small research team; student mentorship experience; strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Who we are
The mission of ANIVET is to perform basic, strategic, and applied research and innovation within the department’s core activities: nutrition, health and welfare. The activities make up the science-based foundation of ANIVET’S’ teaching, public sector consultancy and collaboration with business and industry. The successful applicant will be placed in the Research Unit Gut and host health.

Application procedure

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.
 

Letter of reference

Formalities and salary range

Technical Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
