A fulltime two-year postdoc position is available in the Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences, Aarhus University, starting May 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.
We seek a candidate with a background in community ecology, macroecology, statistical or quantitative ecology, or animal science. The postdoc will have broad scope to determine the specific nature of the research conducted as part of the position. Potential areas of interest include, but are not limited to
- Community ecology or macroecology of the gut microbiomes
- Developing new approaches to modelling rank abundance diagrams as a tool to evaluate and describe response to disturbance
- The role of climate change in altering the risk of animal disease
- Assessment of animal behaviour via digital ethology using hidden Markov or multistate models
Funding for the position is already secured through an Aarhus Universitets Forskningsfond Starting Grant awarded to Dr. Gavin Simpson.
Qualifications
- Academic qualifications at PhD level in ecology or animal science, or a related field
- Documentation of excellent skills with the area of research
- Demonstration of skills in statistical of quantitative ecological methods
- Good skills in statistical programming and data analysis tools (e.g., R, Python, Julia)
- Good communication skills as evidenced by communication of research results in peer-reviewed journals and at scientific conferences
- Very good knowledge of English (written and oral)
- Experience supervising students at teaching in higher education is a merit

The area of employment is Aarhus University (AU) with related departments, and the place of work is the Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences, Blichers Allé 20, 8830, Tjele, Denmark. Flexibility with regard to day-to-day workplace arrangements is possible.

Deadline

Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.
Letter of reference

Formalities and salary range
Technical Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
